Sometime around 2013, in one of the sessions while co-teaching with Mark Warner; I came across a beautiful simple exercise in understanding a line and it’s emotive quality. And then Mark turned it on its head and played the role of an astrologer by reading the emotion behind the drawings students had made. Ever since, I have reached out to that exercise to help give direction to students on basics of drawing, evolving a style and any other place I can find for it.
After which, that day students painted to list of music curated by them and eventually made some art on t-shirts, shoes and other unimaginable objects. The energy in the studio was exploding all the way out to the terrace and parapets. They painted with their hands, their feet, even blindfolded.
